Oh yeah...

"Big Brother 6" starts on July 7th! Woo Hoo! It may make me a tad bummed though. Back when we were in Lafayette, the friend group would get together and watch it. No more of that though. We're not even all in the same time zone anymore. We'll just have to link all of our cell phones after the show to vent.

I'm also excited about the Martha Stewart Apprentice. I think I would like to be her Apprentice. That would be better than Donald Trump's Apprentice.

I watched "Dancing with the Stars" more appropriately called "Gagging me with a Wooden Spoon." Don't worry you didn't miss anything, except "Mr. Peterman" doing an excellent waltz.

"Trading Spouses: Meet your new mommy" wasn't all that great this week either. Kind of boring. I actually like "Wife Swap" better because it's not continued over 2 weeks. I cannot stand to wait.

"I Want a Famous Face" had a girl trying to look like Posh Spice because she wants to be a hair model. Ambitious.

Unfortunately I missed "Britney and Kevin Chaotic" this week. My week really suffered because of that. I mean how could I even survive without hearing Britney say "what if my nose looked like this" while pushing her nose up like a pig. And creepy Kevin...I may need to see some internet clips to get my fix. Only Fox's new "Prince's of Malibu" could possibly top this one.

Anyway, now you know I'm addicted to reality shows. And I like it.

It's Bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Yeah well, I usually can't stand anything that comes out of Gwen Stefani's mouth, but I cannot get that song out of my head! "Cuz I ain't no holla back girl...."Somebody help me.

Lost

Kent and I watched the first episode of Lost last night. We thought we'd give it a try since everyone seems to be hooked. I'm not so sure I'm hooked. If whatever the giant thing in the jungle is happens to be a dinosaur, I'm definitely not hooked. I am not interested in dinos and humans mixing on an island. That is vulgar! Just kidding. Not vulgar, I don't know why, I'm just not into a dinosaur show.

Kirstin and I went to visit Stacey and Jeremy in Destin last week. It was a lot of fun. I rode in Kirstin's shiny new car. We paid $1,000,000 tolls. That rocked. I have a very burnt chest. Actually now its just itchy. Coca was really excited to see me when I got home. It's like snuggling a wild squirrel really. I am going to post updated pictures by the way.

Oh and Sugarland relatives (I didn't want to give away your real names in case you didn't want me to) I'm excited about ya'll being in town at the end of June. That'll be fun!!

New Orleans is stinkin hot! The humidity is so bad that the doors to our house are swollen! We have to bust in like the cops on SVU everytime we get home! I really just don't know what to do about that. Guess I'll just keep bustin' in until I bust the door down. Then we'll have no doors and that will be fabulous. (not really)

I'M HAVING A BAD DAY

The only thing that is keeping me going is the thought of Raisin' Canes for dinner and being at the beach in less than 48 hours.

3 Posts in One Week - It's UH-MAYZIN!

I've only had one cavity in my life. It's only by God's sheer grace though, because I am in no way dedicated to oral hygiene. In fact, today has been another "didn't brush my teeth" day. In addition I used to floss only twice a year - right before my dental appointments. For some odd reason I decided to floss one night. We'll much to my dismay, in the midst of my flossing I pulled out my only filling (which I figured out had been cracked a couple of weeks earlier when I bit into a pearl in my gumbo at a restaurant. I still have the pearl.). Now I never, ever floss. (I'm so gross. I really don't know how Kent can handle it) So I had to go to the dentist to get it filled again.

I'm in the dental chair waiting for my Novacain shot and I hadn't had one in a long time, so I wasn't totally positive about how painful it would be. My dentist comes in with the needle and sensing my nervousness tells me, "Don't worry, it'll just feel like a little mosquito bite." He gave me two shots. One in my gums and one in the roof of my mouth. Well I don't know what kind of scary mosquitoes live in his yard, but if I had a mosquito bite me like that you better believe I'd be notifying wildlife and fisheries about a new species. Dentist, if you are reading this maybe you should describe it more like "Don't worry, it'll just feel like your being sliced with a razor on the roof of your mouth and in your gums." LIAR!

Pieces of Freedom: My Summer Plans

I love Summer. It always kind of bums me out that now that I work rather than go to school I don't have Summers off. Even in college I never took Summer school classes. I only worked one Summer and never did that again. It was great. I loved the freedom, the relaxed days - it was awesome.

Last year was my first Summer as a worker. I have to say, it wasn't great. I hated being trapped in my office for 9 hours a day rather than playing.

This Summer is going to be different. It's already started actually. I live very close to where I work, so I go home everyday for lunch. That's something I really enjoy. I go inside and play with Coca. After I take her out to relieve herself I fix myself something to eat. I usually eat my lunch outside in the backyard while Coca plays. It's really great because our backyard is our own little piece of "country" in the city. Its pretty big for New Orleans (Metairie), full of trees - so it's nice and shady, and it's fenced so I don't have to worry about the Cokester running away. We have some kind of fruit tree (I think its lemons), a pecan tree, and two oak trees. There are tons of squirrels. I've seen blue jays, a woodpecker and a cardinal. I'm so thankful we rented this place and not some of the others we looked at. So, I get an hour of Summer freedom everyday! I love it.

Also, I'm planning on going to the beach a few times this year. The first is a girl trip to Florida on Memorial Day weekend. It will be so much fun! I'm very excited!

The second will be with my fam! It will be awesome. I've never missed a family vacation yet and I don't intend to start this year. We usually stay for a week in whatever cool place my mom found on the internet. I'm stoked.

The third is still in the works actually...

Anyway, so that's my Summer. I hate having to go to work (I enjoy my job though), but I can still enjoy my Summer. I hope all of yours are great too!

K vs. J

As most of you who know us know, Kent and I get along exceptionally well. We RARELY argue and I can honestly say we never yell. We are just very compatible with each other and neither of us really freak out about little annoyances. We agree on the "big ones" and don't let the "little ones" bother us. However, there is one topic that we will never agree on. Neither of us are willing to compromise either. Our opinions are set in stone and we will not budge. We've come to accept our differences though. KENT HATES COUNTRY MUSIC AND I LOVE IT! Classic country, new country, 80's country. If its country I will probably like it. Maybe it's because I'm from the country and I like it that way. I know pretty much everyone who reads this blog agrees with Kent, but it doesn't bother me when people make fun of country music. I enjoy it. I enjoy most music. I like little bit of country, oldies, rock, classic rock, pop, hip hop, r&b - not really into opera or classical though and I'm selective on the rap. There are a few bands/artists I cannot stomach; Alice in Chains, Gwen Stefani/No Doubt(except for that song she did with Moby), Creed to name a few. Occasionally I suffer through an Alice in Chains song for Kent and he returns the favor by suffering through an Alan Jackson (one of my ALL-TIME FAVS!) song for me. So, I guess we do compromise in that way. Anyway, now you know our greatest difference.

Karaoke - Pass time of the fun and tasteless

CONGRATS TO MY BRO, DANIEL!
Yesterday my baby brother graduated from high school. We shouted and cheered and then went to his graduation party. Kent and I supplied the Karaoke. After hearing several comments along the lines of, "You don't really think anyone is going to do that?" I was pleased to see the kiddies having a great time karaokeing! (my plan is working). In case you don't know...I L-O-V-E Karaoke. Kent and I started off the night with our rendition of Sweet Home Alabama. It was fun. I'm glad we brought it.

Do I really look like I need one?

One day Kent and I were at the mall. Due to my inability to pay attention to one thing for more than 15 minutes, I had to leave Kent in the music store. So, I went across the way to one of those little stores like "Hi Style" or "Citi Trends." You know, where they have, not-so-high-quality formal gowns and "going out" clothes. I wandered in to look around and the girl working there immediately catches me at the door, she asks "Can I help you with anything?" I say, "No, thanks. I'm just looking." So she responds, "Well, are you looking for a wig because I can help you?" WHAT! Am I looking for a wig? Why oh why would she assume I'm looking for a wig? I mean, I know I'm not exactly one of those people who gets all fixed up to go out somewhere, but really, is it that bad? Did I somehow lose a significant chunk of hair during my walk through the mall? I responded with "uhhhh...no thanks" and left. Of course, I thoroughly checked for any bald spots when I got home. Thankfully, I was still fully covered. I have not gone back in that store again, that or the "death store," but that's a whole other story...

A Good time was had by all...

Memories of Kent's and my first apartment.
I'll never find friends like this again...

New Orleans #1 City for Cars

Yeah, that's right. We were selected as the place your car would want to live if it could talk. What! Do cars secretly love pain? There's a pot hole so big that I go through on my way to church that I'm afraid if I don't go around it the devil, himself, will reach up and grab me. This pothole is so deep it's a direct connection to hell. Not to mention, several cars were recently showered with bullets during two high-powered shootings on I-10 a couple of weeks ago. I later read that one of the factors the results were based on was how much money people invest in car maintenance. Of course we spend a lot of money on our cars. We have to repair them after they CRACK IN HALF! With that said, I really like living here. That's not me being sarcastic. It's real. Hole-y roads, murders and all. I like it A LOT - well Metaire anyway. Y

I'm going to sell my self

Brian, I don't know you, but I read your blog and I got this off of it because I thought it was neat and I wanted to show everyone my results:

I am worth $1,432,000 on HumanForSale.com

Turns out I'm below average. The average woman is worth $1,667,431.00. I'm going to have to get some upgrades.

Drool

I drool like a fool! I've never known anyone besides myself that drools so much in their sleep. I mean, I have to flip my pillow at least once a night because I find myself lying in a pool of drool. When I was in high school and was doing some rarely seen babysitting, I fell asleep while the parents were gone. They woke me up when they got home and I was totally embaressed to find that I'd drooled all over their pretty little couch pillow. It's not just when I sleep though. If I lay my head down, immediatly the drool starts to run out of the side of my mouth. When I yawn, sometimes a big 'ol drool blob drips out of my mouth. In fact, that happened in French class in college once. My book was warped on that page because of it. I often feel like I just have too much saliva. Or maybe I have rabies and I'm actually foaming at the mouth...

Wrestlemania XIV

My sister and her dog, Bear, are visiting this week. So, its like Wrestlemania at our house with the dogs wrestling constantly...
Coca bites bear on the foot....YIPE!
Bear bites Coca on the belly....YIPE!
Coca bites bear on the nose.....YIPE!
Bear sits on Coca's head.....silence.

But, they're fun to watch. Coca has learned to shake hands. It's so cute! Oh, and I know a girl from Guatemala. She asked me this weekend why we named the dog "Coca." I told her its because we love Coca-cola and she's brown. The girl told me that hispanic people often refer to cocaine as Coca. Sweet...now people think we're drug addicts or drug addict wannabes.

Kent and I are finally unpacked. And after only three months. Someone should really give us an award. Procrastinessica strikes again. It's a good thing Laura was coming to visit or we might have never unpacked the spare bedroom. We actually have two boxes left though. One is "stuff used for decorating but don't really know if I want to use it" and one is "stuff I need to file in the filing cabinet."

We only have one bed in the spare bedroom right now. The other is on loan to my Oma for a couple of weeks. When we get it back the place will be open for visitors! Not that anyone who reads this hasn't been to New Orleans a bazillion times but you haven't been to New Orleans while we're living here! It's like a wonderland (okay, not really, but it would be fun to have visitors)!

As a side note...a google is 10 to the 100th power. I learned that in 8th grade and it just came back to me tonight.

AG-O-NY

I have a big 'ol ulcer in my mouth. Its right inside my upper lip. Just perfect for my tooth to hit every so often. Food and drink go right in it and it burns like acid. My tongue is automatically drawn to it. I cannot help but poke the ulcer with my tongue about 1,700 times per day. Will it ever heal, Yo, I don't know.

Next weekend will be my last weekend at our house until June 3rd. That's real special. I'll probably have to volunteer for a medical procedure to pay for the gasoline.

Coca, our precious pup, is scheduled for her surgery on May 20th. I hope she survives. She will probably weigh close to 4 pounds by then. She's getting "fixed." Coca and her cousin, Pixie, are going at the same time. Cousin Bear will still be too young. By the way, I need to get my sister to send me some pictures of Bear so I can post them.

Well, I'm super tired so, goodnight everyone.

A brief glimpse into my eating habits

Chicken skin...I love it. I really don't even like chicken meat very much. I pretty much eat it just to justify eating the skin. Well my mom made cornish hens tonight for dinner. We were eating them at TV trays in the living room because we were watching Oceans Twelve. My mom, knowing how much I love skin, tried to help me out. It was at this point that something happened to Kent that will never be done to most husbands by their mother-in-law. My mom tossed the sheet of chicken skin (sounds gross, but I'm crazy about it) to my plate. She accidentally threw it a little too hard and in slow motion it flew past me and stuck to Kent' s hairy knee. I LAUGHED SO HARD! My mom apologized profusely and explained what she was doing. Fortunately Kent is married to me and is used to weird things like that and he laughed it off. I love my family.

Memories of Griffin Hall...One of the buildings of U L Lafayette

One time I was going up the stairs to the third floor. I was going at a regular speed - not too slow, I thought. Well, aparently I was going just a little to slow for shaved arm, tight shirt, muscle boy. He darted around the side of me and went up. Not two steps ahead of me, he fell down. He looked back at me and said, "Blah bladah blah bla da!" I never knew what he said, but I got a tad bit of satisfaction out of seeing Mr. Hairless hit the steps.

Another time I was waiting for the elevator - kinda lazy that day - when I saw some one dressed in a full donkey costume standing there holding a sign saying "I've been a mule, please forgive me." I guess he was waiting for his girlfriend because some girl ran and hugged him all happy-like. Drama queens...

Finally, I was so tired one day while waiting for my classroom to be open that I sat down in the hallway and layed my head on my booksack. When I woke up people were all around and my face was covered in drool. No wonder no one ever talked to me in my classes.

The time/gas that has passed...

Tax time has come and gone. I mailed the envelope today. Let me just say, Turbo Tax is great. We actually ended up with another credit that we didn't even know we qualified for! I was stoked.

This has been a busy week. I dislike being busy. I don't mind having things to do, but being busy, feeling rushed and tired, having a comittment every night of the week is not for me. A full calendar is my enemy. I think that's why I can't use a day planner. I get overwhelmed if its being used too much. Outside of work I have two comittments - church and small group. That's the way I like it (sort of, ideally I'd only have one comittment, but I can deal with it).

I have 3 ulcers in my mouth this week!
I ran over my toe with a couch and tore off 1/3 of my toenail!

My big plan this week was to drink club soda instead of water because water gives me a stomach ache. Club soda by itself is NAS-TEE! Blagh!

Today was the 2nd time in my life that I pumped gas next to someone who was pumping their gas with the car running.

Delgado college offers a course on how to use a mouse...Click once when your pointer turns to a finger, twice when you're clicking on an icon. Sometimes you can right click for more information...Class dismissed! Thanks for the $110!

I would like Tanna to be the next Apprentice.

Taxes

I know this is kind of wierd, but I'm actually excited about doing our taxes this year. I've really tried to do a good bit of research on the IRS website to find out what we qualify for. I was pleased to learn that we qualify for either the Hope or Lifetime Learning Credits!

Just a bit of information, if you are reading this and you have a child, and you file a tax return, you may want to check this out, if you haven't already done so. Most people probably already know all about the Earned Income Tax Credit, but I just learned about it this year, so I thought I would just throw it out there so no one would miss out.

So far, everyone I've talked to this year about whether they've done their taxes or not, they all have to pay! I hope we don't. It's always fun to get that tax return, even if it's just a little bit.

Well, that's enough about taxes, I think.

Coca didn't cry when I left her today after lunch. I was very happy. I always feel so guilty leaving her.

I went to the Freret Steet Fesitval and Homeownership Fair this weekend. My aunt works for a savings and loan company and she had to work a booth there, so I tagged along. I spent most of the day walking around by myself and listening to the bands play. Well, I happened to be listening to one band when they said "Alright, now we're going to play a waltz! Everyone grab a partner!" So, I put on my grumpiest face hoping no one would talk to or touch me. I was doing a great job, really. BUT WHO COMES AND MAKES ME DANCE WITH THEM! Gumbo the Saints Mascot Dog! And then the big hairy mascot pretended to lick my head! Mascots....they think they think they can do whatever they want...

Eggs...

Kent and I discovered, early on Easter morning, that Zachary does not have an Easter Bunny. They have Easter Squirels. We saw so many squirels in the road in my parents' neighborhood. They had to have been delivering eggs or else why would they all be out there?

Speaking of eggs, I gave my Oma an "Eggstractor" for her birthday. Some of you may have seen this on TV. It looks sort of like an accordian and it peels your eggs for you. It shoots them out of a hole at the bottom. Pretty neat, but definitely takes some practice to get it right.

I really enjoy "As seen on TV" items in case you all haven't noticed

I'm at the library right now. Kent is at the computer in front of me, so I can just see his back. He's doing some work for a presentation at school tomorrow. I just heard him release a deep sigh, must be difficult. I've also heard him tell two different people "God bless you" when they sneezed, and his cell phone rang.

Not to shift subjects here, but the reason we're here in the library is so Kent can use Powerpoint. We were going to buy it for our computer today, but do you know how much that stinkin' program costs??!! Over $200! That's crazy world! No wonder Bill Gates weaves his socks out of dollar bills. However, we can buy the Student/Teacher edition of Microsoft Office that has Powerpoint, Xcel, Word and Outlook for a little cheaper, so maybe next month. Kent uses it every week for church and school.

Shark Tale

Has anyone seen the migrating sharks off the coast of Floriday? Now that is scary! It's really like the TV movie "Spring Break Shark Attack." Experts say sharks usually don't bother humans...usually. I don't think I'll bank on usually. Last year when we were on vacation Kent, Daniel (my brother) and I were out past the first sandbar in the gulf when we saw a big black shadow hanging around us. I got freaked out and climbed up on my raft. They said "oh Jessica, it's just a big mackrel" I accepted that explanation. Then it came back and was lurking about 3 feet past us so I decided it wasn't worth the risk and headed out of there. The next day, on the front page of the newspaper. I see "SHARKS SPOTTED AT BEACH" and the shadow they showed in the water was identical to the one we saw! Yikes. I do like sharks. I think they're really neat. If I ever have enough money and the opportunity I would like to become a certified diver and go down in one of those shark cages. That would be cool...

I can't seem to write a complete thought

I took the day off of work today. It's awesome! Everyone else in my office is working, but not me. YIPEE! So, we went to my parents' house for Easter, but we have to go back early Sunday morning because Kent has to do the music. He really does a great job. :)

Well, we're in Z-town and my sis has a new puppy. She got an American Eskimo. He's already trying to "get to know" my baby dog. I was shocked! I explained to Coca she's much too young for that and she will be getting he operation soon, like within the next month. Poor Cokes....

UPDATE....
The magic bullet rocks! It makes the most wonderful smoothies. And it doesn't leave chunks of ice like a blender would. Plus, what's really cool is that you actually attach the mug you'll drink your smoothie out of to the blade. You blend it in the cup and then when you're done, you screw on this protective lip to cover the "screw on" area. It's great because then I only have one dish to wash. I give this product two thumbs up.

If my ribs were cooked and put on a buffett would I be "All you can eat ribs" for one person? for two people?

A Brief History of Time (well, for the last week anyway)

Today a bird came in my office. I helped it out of the door. It brightened my day seeing that bird up close and personal. Although I was a little worried it would poop on my head.

We have this chair that is really hard to get out of, and if you drop crumbs in it, good luck ever getting them out. The chair shares a motto with a certain famous city..."What happens in that chair, stays in that chair."

Coca has learned to sit! Now we are working on lying down. She's a little confused about that one though. She also knows how to let me know she needs to go outside now. She has one ear that stands up and one floppy ear. It's really really cute! Yesterday she got her final round of puppy shots and can go around other dogs now! YIPPEE! She's very friendly and will be happy about that. Now, if I can only teach her to do the laundry while I'm at work...

One final thought...
I'm really stoked that "Good Day Live" is off the air now.

Did you ever hear this story?

So, Easter is coming up and therefore so is Good Friday. That has reminded me of a story. It happened one year ago on Good Friday...

I was on my way home from work. My boss had let us off early. I was in a great mood. The sun was shining. I had the radio turned up and the windows down. What a great afternoon...or so I thought. I pull into our driveway, as happy as can be, when I see these little brown things all over outside of the living room window. I thought "What the heck is that?" After pulling up closer I realize that they are bees all over the window, and swarming around the electric box right by the window. I thought, "Well, I'll just make a break for it and run in the door." So, I got out of the car and as I'm running toward the door I realized the bees aren't all over the outside of the window...THEY'RE ON THE INSIDE! HUNDREDS OF BEES! I was totally freaked out. I ran back to my car, locked the doors and called the landlord. What is his response? "Oh, well, do you have somewhere you can stay tonight, because I'm not going to be able to get anyone out there. You can probably wait until night time when the bees calm down and go in to get some clothes." No way...not acceptable. I told him to try to get someone. I tried to call Kent, but no answer. Then I thought I better leave because bees can fly through A/C vents... or so I imagined. So, I went over to Kirstin's. Eventually I got in touch with Kent and warned him not to go in the house, but to meet me at Kirstin's. Eventually that evening the exterminator came and my wonderful Kenty met him there. It turns out it was just a random swarm of bees passing through the area that decided to build a hive in our wall. As the exterminator was leaving he said, "You may hear some buzzing for a few days but don't let it bother you, it's just the leftover bees." Yeah, like it's not going to bother me. Anyway, I never thought we'd actually use the mosquito net hanging over our bed to protect us from bugs, but we did.

Oh memories....Kent used to tell me when we were dating "The weirdest stuff happens to you!" Now, it happens to both of us.

Special Man, Loving Wife & Precious Dog

In case you don't know, I'm kind of silly... so, I from time to time call Kent "Special Man" and in his cell phone I'm listed as "Loving Wife"...we're so corny, but at least we know it. Anyway, Coca is now, "Precious Dog." Precious Dog wore a sweater for the first time the other night. WAY TOO CUTE!! I ALMOST COULDN'T HANDLE IT! She would run around and the little hood would fall over her eyes. It was f-f-f-f-funny! Here's a link to her sweater pics RIGHT HERE.

Also, today is my 2nd favorite day of the week. I woke up in an uncharacteristically good mood this morning (due to some thunderous gas). I was actually laughing at 7AM! That NEVER happens. I am the true opposite of a morning person (would that make me a night thing? Is that the opposite?) I'm like a morning monster. Today will be a good day. It's BEEE-AUTIFUL outside! WOO-HOO!

I did not brush my teeth today. It always makes me a little happier when I know I don't have to brush my teeth because I don't have anything important to do. I love those days.

HELP ME...

I need help...our house is never going to get unpacked. I'm just not motivated. It stresses me out to be there. I just go to the one room that's halfway decent and stay there all night. Organizing is not not not not my strong suit, at least not at home anyway. I'm somewhat organized at work because I have to be. There's usually so much going on at once that I'd never get anything done if I wasn't. Anyway...what a mess. The spare bedroom only has about 3 feet of walking area. I just dig things out as I need them.

On another note...March 15th is Kent's and my 3 year anniversary. Guess who still hasn't ordered their wedding pictures! Guess who's pictures are already paid for! Guess who still hasn't legally changed her name! Guess who never ordered a copy of the marriage license! That's right, Procrastinessica - that's me. If I don't have a deadline, I probably won't get it done.

I'm a crazy unorganized and a procrastinator - how I manage to get anything done is beyond me.

Sweet Dreams

I had a kind of funny dream the other night.

I dreamed that for some reason I had to start riding in a carseat. I was so upset because I was going to be embarrassed when I pulled into the work parking lot driving my car from a carseat. Also, we couldn't afford a new carseat. I had to get a used one. It was gray with a tear in the side. Dreams are so strange...

Now I take you back in time to 1997, when I was a freshman in college...

Gene and Brent always had TONS of snacks in their dorm room.
Kirstin had a microwave under her bed.
My room was always a mess (that hasn't really changed).
Stacey had her name, written in pennies, stuck on the wall over her bed.
We tried on Brittany's clothes when she wasn't in the room.
Kent spoke to me for the first time, "Hey, we have matching overalls!"
Kyle Tousineau would try to tie my shoelaces to a chair without me noticing (didn't work)
Kirstin and I would call 99.9 when they took requests at night with that guy Jason and request "Red, Red Wine"
Stacey got the first symptoms of food poisoning at a donut shop on johnston street. She ended up having to go to the emergency room.
I got swollen lips from being hit in the mouth by a raquet ball.

Next week, sophomore year in college; tales from 1998

Puppy 911 and other life changing stories

So, I took coca for her first vet visit yesterday. It was an EMERGENCY! She was pooping WAY too much. I mean 5 times in one day! Then the next morning 3 times in 3 hours! I was so worried. Good news though, she just has to get used to her food. But I was glad to go to the vet anyway. She's really nice and answered all the questions I had about Coca. I don't think she thought I was crazy. She said I could call anytime with questions. Her name was Jessica too. They also had a girl at the front desk named Jessica.

Today I've spent most of the day playing with the Coca and putting away clothes. I'm soooo bad at unpacking. When I get home from a trip my bag stays packed for a minimum of 1 week, most of the time longer. Now, we've moved into a new place, I think we moved in January 29th, we are still not even close to being unpacked. I'm just now unpacking all of my clothes. Sometimes I wish I was a celebrity and could get someone to do all the unpacking for me. Gag...I hate it.

Exciting News!! Kent's parents gave me a hanging plant for my birthday, which was in june, but it's been at their house since then, because of the move and all of that. Well, I just got it back last week and hung it in the tree right outside of our door. WELL SOMETHING GREAT HAPPENED! A bird built a nest it it! I am so excited. I see the momma bird everyday sitting on her nest. We'll get to see the little birdies when they hatch AND we'll get to see them learn how to fly! I'm just so happy everytime I walk out of the door and see her in the plant. Spring is coming soon!

I'm about to go pick up Kenter from the library and go to wal-mart and the dollar tree. I'm going to print some pics of Coca for my desk. (I'm such a goofy girl).

I've been kind of slow at posting lately because Kent and I do not have internet yet. We will have it after we see what our first electric bill is like. Oi....budgets...

It's a girl!

Here's a first look at the newest member of our family!

Coca-Cola Caperton, better known as "Coca." She's a Long-Haired Chihuahua puppy. Born on December 29, 2004, Coca weighs 1.75 lbs right now, but will grow up to be about 5 or 6 lbs.

We're very excited to finally get her!

I've been wanting a dog for a LOOOOONG time!

Cousin Pixie, a short-haired Chihuahua.

Coca and Pixie meet for the first time. Pixie showed Coca how to walk on a leash today!

Hot tub time!

I LOVE HER!

Valentine for My Car

Oh my car you've taken me so far
You're a winner, you're my star
Silver and dirty with hubcabs only on one side
You do your job, you still take me for a ride
Your visors are broken and live in the back seat
Your mats are stained from my dirty feet
Sometimes you don't start because you're not able
But all I have to do is tickle your battery cable
You drink oil like you've never had a drink before
If you burn it, don't worry, I'll just add more
Remember the beans that spilled in the back seat
Some beans still remain others we tried to eat
How about the girl that vomited on you
As I cleaned your carpets, I gagged too
I'm sorry that I let you get so dirty and black
But you never holler or give me any flack
You listen to the continuous singing it's like a concert
I'm truly sorry if you have ears and I make them hurt
Our latest adventure together was the stop sign incident
You remained calm, that's the way it should be, isn't it
You take me where I need to go everyday
A true friend, in everyway

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, CAR!

(I'm bored.)

Awesome.

Kent and I are different in many, many ways. One of those ways is our tastes in music. However, once in a while we'll have one of those rare moments where our musical paths cross and we procede to belt out a song together like we're giving our farewell concert to thousands of adoring fans. The following song is one of those special ones. Picture it...Kent's driving, I'm blabbing on about whatever because I tend to blab on, radio is down low because sometimes loud music stresses me out. All of the sudden... that familiar bass line "bwa-ah bwa-ah bwa bwa bwa-ah"...One look at each other...The volume goes up...and LOOK OUT! IT'S CONCERT TIME!:

Livin' On A Prayer
J. Bon Jovi, R. Sambora, D. Child

Once upon a time
Not so long ago
Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
He's down on his luck...it's tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day
Working for her man, she brings home her pay
For love - for love
She says: We've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a differenceIf we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot
We're half way there
Livin' on a prayer
Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear
Livin' on a prayer
Tommy got his six string in hock
Now he's holding in what he used
To make it talk - so tough, it's tough
Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night
Tommy whispers: Baby it's okay, someday
We've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a difference
If we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot
We're half way there
Livin' on a prayer
Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear
Livin' on a prayer
We've got to hold on ready or not
You live for the fight when it's all that you've got
We're half way there
Livin' on a prayer
Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear
Livin' on a prayer
Thank you everyone! GOODNIGHT!

Don't say it if you don't mean it you silly geese!

Friday....January 21, 2005...8:23 PM
This is an actual event at an actual Blockbuster.

Blockbuster Employee: "Is this all for you?"
Kent: "Yes."
Blockbuster Employee: "Have you heard about our no more late fees?"
Kent: "Yes, we have."
Blockbuster Employee: "Okay, that'll be $10.46. You have a late fee of $5.23. Would you like to take care of that now?"

Apparently the "No more late fees" policy starts after the Capertons walk out of the door.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a show that comes on TV called Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. On USA network they have a commercial that has the characters sitting in empty rooms, looking all serious & tough saying, "These are true stories, real stories" "Real people."

At the end of the show every time they have a statement that all stories are completely fictitious and not based on any facts.

Someone is mixed up.

We just figured out Blues Clues

Today I was dressed like the host of "Blue's Clues."
Green striped shirt, khaki pants and brown shoes.
I have to say it's rare that I like a kids show.
I didn't watch it after Steve left though.
Steve's in college, replaced by his "brother."
Some said he was dead, he was checked on by his mother.
All of that hoopla was just a rumor.
Good thing he has a sense of humor.
This is Steve and this is what he wore.
Maybe I should think about my mental health a little more.

We have a Doorbell!

Well we've moved all of our belongings into "the place." I'm not sure what to call it yet. Our apartment, our house, our 1/2 double (no that's too long), our cave. I'll probably call it all kinds of things. Anyway, it's a crazy house right now. WHY do we have so much stuff? WHY can't I throw anything away? I'll tell you why. Everything is an unfinished art project. "Oh, no I need that it's for a project." I'm sure Kent hears those words more than he'd like. Not only can I not throw away my own stuff. I take other people's stuff that they are getting rid of and save it for my various projects. Sometimes I don't even have a project in mind, I just get it for parts. If that's not bad enough, I dig in trash. It's like an obsession. I can't let good stuff go to waste. I just can't. It kills me to see good items in the trash. You'd be surprised all of the things around our home that I've gotten off the side of the road.

So, back to the new place. I really like it a lot. It's got a cute little picket gate and a big backyard for our new one. Not that they will be spending much time outside (you'll hear more about this after Feb. 11th). We have 2 bedrooms and one bathroom and no drawers in the kitchen. Plus, we have a doorbell. But most exciting of all! WE HAVE AN ICE MAKER! I'VE NEVER HAD AN ICE MAKER IN ALL OF MY LIFE! No more ice trays! I'm free!

Yesterday I thought I heard a jackhammer next door. Turns out it really was a jack hammer. Neat.

It's a good thing..

I like Martha Stuart Living, the magazine.

Kent and I put a deposit on a place. WOO HOO! We move in on Saturday, January 29th. Most excellent. It's a 2 BR, but small, like 850 sqare feet. That' s alright though, we like being close together. I think I'm going to grow tomatoes there. My mom and sister are going to look at a puppy for me tomorrow. If all goes well, I'll put a deposit on it. Oh, what a happy day it will be when I finally get my pup!! I think I'm going to start crocheting it a blanket or a sweater tonight.

Another thing I'm soooooo exited about, is finally being able to use my Magic Bullet when we move in. I was reading the instruction pamphlet yesterday. Guacamole, Smoothies and homemade tomato sauce HERE I COME! I'll probably just start turning everything we eat into smoothies and dips.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I only give websites about 10 seconds to load - then I close the window.
Songs get about 15 seconds to start having words, or I change the station.
I often stop the microwave with 2 or 3 seconds left.

Here's a joke that never gets old to me!

It does get old to Kent though...
Any time people start saying "OH, have you seen Sideways." "Yeah, it was cool. Have you seen Spiderman 2?" I JUST CAN'T HELP IT! I have to say "You know what's an awesome movie....JURASSIC PARK!" or "Have you seen Jurassic Park? That movie was awesome!" I think it's so funny because that movie is so old and it's just funny to me to be all excited about a movie that old. No one else ever laughs though. I mostly just get looks like no one knows what I'm talking about. I think Stacey A. (well its R. now) laughed at it, but so far, it's the only laugh that joke has gotten. Maybe I need to take it out of the rotation. It cracks me up every time though. I guess it doesn't take much to entertain me.

Okay. Lately I CANNOT CONCENTRATE WHEN I'M POSTING! I just jump from thought to thought. Is it better do make a completely new post or to include it all in one. Anyway...

I'm VERY VERY ticklish. I if my shoe touches the bottom of my foot wrong it tickles me and I kick it off. Sometimes, when I was teaching PE I'd ask Kent if he'd help me take my shoes off because my feet hurt. I'd usually end up grabbing my feet away because I just couldn't take it! I always tell Kent, "If you get the urge to tickle me, just go ahead and poke me in the eye instead, just right in the eyeball. I would rather that than to be tickled." Maybe I'm a "spoil sport" but I can't take it!!! Of course, I'll take any free opportunity to tickle others. :) Maybe I dislike it so, because of what happens when I laugh to much. I get the hiccups. And not just your average, everyday hiccups. They're deep from within the depths of my soul hiccups. They're very loud and hurt my chest every time. My dad gets the same kind. It's weird. He doesn't even like me to mention hiccups around him because he might get them. I really only get them from laughing. I don't mind if I'm having a good time laughing and I get them, but if you're tickling me and I get the hiccupps...big trouble.

Oh...my Kidneys...

All day long I thought I had a kidney infection. But I've been drinking more water than normal. I actually didn't even have any soft drinks yesterday (I'm trying to cut down, I think they're dissolving my bones and teeth). Yet, my sides - like towards my back, lower back - have been aching all day. Now I'm thinking I must just have sore muscles. I went to a Yoga class last night and we did a lot of twisting. Are organs crowded in your body? I mean, are they leaning all over each other? I remember disecting a fetal pig in high school. I had some shoes that were the exact same color and texture as the pig's liver. Every time I wore those shoes I felt like the pig stench was in my nose again....blagh! I didn't wear them much longer after that. Here's something else interesting from high school science. I've actually SEEN my own DNA pattern! I think that's so neat. We did a swab of the inside of our mouths and then put it in a petri dish with that gelatin stuff and then it went in some type of centrifuge. After a while our DNA showed up as a pattern of bars on the gelatin. I've always thought that was really neat. I like science.

Who's in the house...hopefully us in about 2 weeks!

Well, we filled out an application for a 1/2 double today. For those who don't know what that is, its one side of a duplex. Why they call it a double around here, I don't know. Anyway, it's cute-y. And it has a big 'ol back yard for my pup (which doesn't exist yet, but hopefully will in the near future). Woo hoo! I hope we don't get turned down. AND it's about a block away from Tastee Donuts and Krispy Kreme. You can smell donuts from the yard. It won't be too much of a temptation for me, though. I'm not a big donut fan. Now if it was a block from Raisin' Cane's....You'll hear more details later if we get approved. If not, I'm sure you'll read a whiney post from me.

I may have already posted about this, but I don't know....

Here are a few things that make me cringe (or punch somebody) when I hear people say them:

  1. Absolutely NUMBER 1 on the list has to be when someone prefaces what they're about to say with "No offense, but..." That does not clear them of all resposibility for what they're about to say. When I hear someone start to say that, I feel like telling them, " You know what, don't even say it because if you have to tell me not to be offended I probably will be."
  2. "Boys will be boys" This is no excuse! If some little boy is pulling someone's hair and the response to his behavior is "Boys will be boys" I think it would be more accurate to say "Boys (or girls) will be obnoxious if you let them do what ever they want!"
People can mispronounce things, use words in the wrong context, or even use words that aren't real (this happens at my office on a regular basis, words that aren't real, that is) and it doesn't bother me. But for some reason those two statements really irk me.
Is there anything that people say that make you all crazy? I'd be interested to hear what they are.

Now for the bad news...

Well, even if it is bad news. I usually still think its funny...

Kent and I thought we found a house we wanted to rent. It needed a little freshening up, but it wasn't anything we couldn't handle. Plus, it had a lot of character. Very, very cute and finally in a safe neighborhood! BONUS! So, the two of us looked at it once and then I was going to go back on my lunch break the following week and fill out the application. Well, I went back and my mom and sister came with me. I still liked it a lot, but we noticed that the floor in the hallway was very uneven. So, we went outside where my mom decided to stick her head under the house (it's one of those old houses that's raised up). As she moved closer to the back of the house while looking under it, my sister and I heard a sound. We couldn't really make out what it was at first, maybe birds or maybe my mom trying to scare us, but she said it wasn't her. THEN it got louder and louder. It actually sounded like a guinea pig squealing! More like several guinea pigs! Well, I was 99% sure that there was not a nest of "guinea pigs" living under that house. More than likely, if it was a nest of some type of rodent, it's rats!! OH GAG!!! THERE'S NO WAY I WOULD LIVE IN THAT HOUSE!!! Not to mention, when we get our Chihuahua a giant rat could eat it! I had some friends who had rats and it was a nightmare! I saw one of their rats run across the counter once and (I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not) it was about the length of my forearm. I almost wet my pants it scared me so bad! Well, at least we found out before we moved in. All I want is a place where we won't be called to court to be murder witnesses. But, I guess I'd rather be a witness than a victim. Oh well, back to the classifieds.

Something Disturbing Happened Today...

Well, most of you probably don't know that my office is in a Medical Office building. So, I'm surrounded by sickies all day. In the elevator, the halls, stairs, wherever! Today I was leaving for lunch and I walked into the stairwell. I saw, lying on the steps, some papers. So, I stooped down to see what they were and where I should return them. Then I heard someone down the hall say, "Oh, Those are mine." So, I thought I'd just pick them up and bring them to her. THEN! Right as I touched them she yells, "DON'T TOUCH THAT!" So I dropped them. I thought geez louise, lady, I'm not going to steal your identity. Then I realize when she comes into the stairwell...SHE HAS RUBBER GLOVES ON! OH MY GOSH! WHAT HAVE I TOUCHED! I asked her, "Uh, should I go wash my hands?" She said, "I would if I were you." And that was it! No explanation! I was a tad concerned, I must say. I mean, what in the world was on those papers! So I went back in my office and told one of the girls what happened. She went out to find the lady and figure out what I'd been exposed to. She found the office the lady was in, and called her out into the hall. Turns out...she has Scabies. What the heck is Scabies? Now I know and I hope I don't get it. I washed my hands really well, with hot water and soap for like 2 minutes, so I hope it helps. If nothing else, it made my day a little more exciting. My back itches.

When, oh when, will Sopranos Season 5 come out on DVD?

Why, oh why, do I like such a violent show?

I don't know, but when we rent it I have to watch all 3 or 4 episodes on the dvd in one day. THAT'S 4 HOURS! I usually cannot and will not sit in front of the TV for 4 hours. That's why I've never seen Braveheart or Lord of the Rings. I can barely make it through a 2 hour movie without finding something else to do while watching it. For some reason if the Sopranos are on, I'm glued. It's mostly only TV shows that I can watch for long periods of time. Even then, I can only continuously watch them if they don't have commercials. So, pretty much only shows that are on dvd. But, I'll never buy a season of a show on dvd, because I just don't buy dvds. There are very few movies that I've ever seen twice so, for me, dvds are basically a waste.

Some other favorite shows both past and present:

  • Full House
  • Seventh Heaven
  • Friends
  • ER (I don't watch it anymore, it got too stressful)
  • Big Brother
  • The Apprentice
  • Six Feet Under
  • Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit
  • Family Ties (Didn't start watching it until 2002)

Defining Chewing on My Face

It's a habit I have of biting off the skin inside of my cheeks. I mean, I will contort my face all sorts of ways just to get that one piece of new skin way in the back! I do it mostly if I'm nervous, or driving, or in deep thought, or sometimes if I just feel a loose piece of skin. Once you start doing this it's very difficult to quit. You actually develop a callous where you chew your cheek and everyday after you chew it all off, while you sleep the callous comes back. So, then you have to start over again the next day. I wonder why tissue grows back so fast in your mouth? Anyway, I hate the habit and I've noticed I'm getting little creases around my mouth from doing it. YIKES! One time Kent asked me, "When did you get that scar on your lip?" But it was a chewing crease. It was pretty funny to me then and now, but it makes me think I'm going to have some serious mouth wrinkles! Oh well, at least I don't chew my arm or Kent's face...I think that may be a more serious problem...

One of my Favorite Websites (Well, that's what the title started off as, then I started rambling)

Craigslist

These are a few of my favorite things:
The Sims, Bettlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, As Good as it Gets, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Bare Naked Ladies, Sheryl Crow, Alan Jackson, Olives, Pickles, Popcorn, any type of dip, Chihuahuas, Tetris, Chocolate Coke, I actually don't have a favorite color. I have two colors I don't like - orange and yellow.

Happy New Year! I made a New Year's resolution. I've actually only kept one ever. I try not to make any now. I resolved to cook more 2 years ago and a I did! It felt good to keep a resolution. This year I'm resolving to break my habit of chewing on my face and lips. It's such a bad habit, but very hard to break. I have 363 days to work on it. I've tried to stop before, but nothing works. Anyone have any ideas? It's just a nervous habit.

So, anyone else make any resolutions or do people not do that anymore?

THURSDAY IS TWO FOR ONE POST DAY: "An evening out" AND "Lunchables - advice for life"

Moving to a new city tends to leave you with no friends. Being the nerd that I am, I find it difficult to make new friends (I'm glad we have a lot of family here). So we haven't gone out and done much since we moved here. So, it was a treat when Kent and I spent yesterday evening with one, Glenn Warbler. It was a lovely time. We ate poboys and then went to cafe' du monde. It was on this outing that I discovered three things:
  1. Pancho's is extremely popular on Wednesday night. I mean, the line was out the door into the lobby. People really love those free sopapilla's! We decided not to wait.
  2. New Orleans has left me void of any opinions. When someone asks what I want to do, or where I want to go, I can only respond, "It doesn't matter. I'm fine with anything. Whatever you want." And, it really doesn't matter. I'm just satisfied with anything. Wierd.
  3. At The New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co. anything you could possibly be looking for is on the condiment bar. Could I have some Ketchup? It's on the condiment bar. Do you have any tartar sauce? It's on the condiment bar. Do you have extra ice? It's on the condiment bar. Where's the restroom? It's on the condiment bar.

Here's something that doesn't have anything to do with what I was just talking about. Do you all remember when Lunchables first came out? There slogan was "Lunch is what you make of it." That's my new motto. It's really applicable for our everyday lives. Here are some examples:

Someone at work is complaining about having to cook, clean and walk the dog when they get home, respond with "Lunch is what you make of it."

Your friend is blabbing on about having to go on a long car ride with their family, respond with "Lunch is what you make of it."

The lady behind the counter asks if you want fries and a coke, respond with "Lunch is what you make of it."

Try using it throughout the day.

One more thing...

BONUS! I hit 500 visitors today! yay!

OH HAPPY DAY!

Something wonderful has happened...

I received as a gift, THE MAGIC BULLET! Now, thanks to my cousin Tyler, I can make dips, salads, smoothies, sauces and juices all with the same small appliance! I am SOOOOO excited. Really, you all just don't understand how great this thing is until you watch the info-mercial. Thank you Tyler! I can't wait to use it!

A Very Special Christmas Post, No Family Should Miss

Here is a Christmas song that I find funny (and scary)
Sing the parts in red in a loud monster-y voice, and you'll see what I mean

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
Pullin' on the reins
Bells are ringin', children singin'
All is merry and bright
HANG YOUR STOCKINGS AND SAY YOUR PRAYERS!
'CAUSE SANTA CLAUS COMES TONIGHT!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane
He's got a bag that's filled with toys
For boys and girls again
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
Oh what a beautiful sight
SO JUMP IN BED AND COVER UP YOUR HEAD!
'CAUSE SANTA CLAUS COMES TONIGHT!

Yikes...Santa?

My Cousin's Wedding

I went to my cousin Jeff and my new cousin Amy's wedding this past weekend (18th). It was a lot of fun!! My whole family danced for hours and hours. I was really glad to see everyone again, and at the same time. The older everybody gets, the less we see each other. So, I really look forward to the times we can all get together. I can hardly wait till the next wedding!! Who wants to get married next?

I Love my Jobber

Yes, I Jessica, actually like a job. I never thought that would happen, but it did. The work is more difficult than other jobs I've had and I'm given a lot more responsiblity, but I enjoy it. I learn something new everyday. There's just so much to learn. Not to mention, the people I work with are great. They're very funny and relaxed. We sit around on the floor, talk about flatulence at lunch, and don't bother using the phone intercoms, we just yell from office to office. The best part is, they like me too! After hearing about how I love Karaoke, have two knots on my head (that they think could be horns) and that I am often plagued by "French Fry Phlegm," they tell me that its just so great that they found me because I'm just as wierd as they are. So, put 6 wierdos together and you get a great office.

Need to Post

Well, Glenn Warbler just pointed out that I have not updated since Nov. 29th!!! Must...Post..need idea...ugh...

Okay, well, here's something funny that happened at work today. We went to Lowe's to look at some sinks and something happened. I had just finished telling them about how something fell off of a shelf and killed some lady at one of these home improvement stores when from the next aisle over we hear. "Boom" "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" (constant hissing) "ARE YOU OKAY?" "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" "ARE YOU OKAY?" Next thing I know I'm being shoved out of the way by Lowes' employees yelling "OH #$%@! THEY BROKE A GAS LINE!!!!" That was my cue. We left and as we were leaving saw the fire truck pull up. They never did make an announcement for people to evacuate. Glad no one was smoking or carrying torches.

The Pod

Kent and I currently have most of our worldly belongings stored in a Pod. If you don't know what that is, a Pod is like the back of a moving truck delivered to your house, you load it with all of your stuff, then someone picks it up and they store it, stacked pod upon pod, in a warehouse until you call for it to be delivered to your home. You can also keep it in your yard if you would like. Well, we decided to access our Pod this past weekend so we could get some winter clothes, the karaoke machine, some Christmas wrappings and gifts, TETRIS and a pair of my boots. First of all we couldn't get the door open. It's one of those over-head, roll-up doors, and something was stuck about mid-way up that was keeping it from going up all the way. So, Kent was doing battle with the door and it was EXTREMELY windy that day! His hair was continuously whipping him in the face, so he went off on a mad search for a ponytail holder and I decided to stick my hand under the door and move whatever was jammed. I did, indeed, move the object, but not before an unknown object fell, smashed my finger and tore some skin off the side of it. It was very bloody and we couldn't find anything to wash it with except watered down coke and a kleenex. So then I had a sticky, bloody, fuzz covered finger. Excellent. We proceeded to unload what we needed, all the while, chasing our belongings that were blowing down the parking lot, like lampshades, baskets, and wrapping paper. Did, I mention it was windy? Meanwhile, my sister was enjoying the show (she did help us hold stuff though). We got some of the clothes we were looking for and the wrapping paper, but we gave up on the rest. It was just too deep within the Pod and digging in anything more than 2 feet from the door would have been a complete disaster. So, Karaoke, Tetris, Christmas gifts, and boots you will all have to wait until we find an apartment.

What do I, a 25-year-old girl, have in common with a 9-year-old boy?

I think I must have the sense of humor of a 9 year old boy. Nothing makes me laugh like gas and diarreah. I hope no one is offended by my talking about this, but to me, these things are just hilarious! If any of you know the "wal-mart story" then you know how funny bowel movements can be. Anyway, to get on with the story...

As you know, Kent and I are living with my grandparents right now. Well, one evening Kent was at the computer in the Utility Room which is right off of the living room and kitchen. My Grandpa was in the LR and Grandma in the Kitchen. I went in the Utility room to talk to Kent. I thought I would just sneak out a little silent gas in there and no one would be the wiser. Only, it wasn't silent. It was like a compact car's horn. Kent and I both looked at each other in shock with eyes bulging because we knew Grandpa and Grandma were both in earshot. So, I immediately started coughing to try to play the poot off as a cough. Then, what's the next thing I hear from the other room? "God bless you, Jessica!" Kent and I lost it! It was just so funny that my gas / cough was mistaken for a sneeze. We laughed and laughed so hard that we cried.
Oh gas...always brightens my day.

Unconscious Mutterings

Here's something interesting I found on a stranger's blog. It's a site that puts up new words each week for word association. It'd be cool to hear your responses to these words. My responses can be found by highlighting the words below. Don't look at my responses until you do yours.

I say ... and you think ... ?

Childhood:: run
Ransom:: kidnap
Melissa:: sweet
Trust me:: evil
Report:: card
Give up:: fight
Nightgown:: flannel
Smokes:: roll
Cookies & cream:: blue bell
Gameshow:: wheel

**Look for the next installment of Jessica's Big Ideas, in which you can read a slightly offensive story and learn about what age group my sense of humor resembles.**

Delightful Week With the Zest of a Car Problem

Well, I finished my very first week of work. It was actually a good week. I had no idea that today was even Friday. I totally thought it was Thursday. That never happens. Usually, I'll wake up and think "YAY! Friday!" But, no, it's Tuesday...wah wah wah waaaaaah. Anyway, I really like the people I work with. I think I'm getting to know them pretty fast, which is really out of character for me. They already know about my Karaoke addiction. That's a big step. Also, I have been doing many different tasks, so it keeps me busy and the day goes by quickly. That's the good part. The bad part of my week was that on my very first day of work, I get home and my car konks out. As, you know from an earlier post I HATE CAR PROBLEMS! Thankfully, Kent and my Grandpa have been taking turns bringing me and picking me up from work. The general consensus is that the problem is the starter, so Kent is going to pull it tomorrow and take it to get tested. Hopefully, that is the problem and Kent can install a new one easily.

A Painful Memory

Here's something funny from my childhood. I had a "big wheel." You have to know what this is because I'm sure most of you had one. It's like a plastic bike that's really low to the ground. The front wheel is really big and the two back wheels were small. My "Big Wheel" was Barbie themed. I loved it! Only I couldn't ride it normal. I insisted on dragging my knuckles on the concrete as a rode and ran over my fingers with the two small wheels on the back. I don't know why I liked doing that. It was just my thing. My parents would tell me not to do it, but riding the "Big Wheel" just wouldn't be the same without running over my fingers. I rode it and ran over my hands till the day it was stolen. Ahhhh...Memories.

Ahh, the Paperwork.

I just got home from filling out some paper work at my new job. Everyone there seems really nice. Including myself, there are 6 people in the office. I think I will fit right in because everybody's a comedien. And, as most of you know, I can't stop if I'm on a roll. I was very quiet today though. I'm quiet if I'm nervous or with people I don't know very well. One of the few things I did say I think may have given them the impression that I'm kinda odd. They asked me if I had a dog. So I told them no, but I would be getting a Chihuahua because they're so close to being human! Then I immediatly wondered why on earth I shared that with them. Only someone who has a Chi knows what I'm talking about. Good thing for me there was a man there who has 3 Chihuahuas, so at least he didn't think I'm crazy. :) I was excited to find out that I have my own, my very own, office! It's like the size of a king size bed, no windows, but I've never had an office to myself before so, I'm thrilled.

I am covered in dust!

After all my excitement with the new job I haven't really posted anything. Well, that's because I'm working on a big project. I decided to devote my last week of freedom to helping my mom sand down and refinish all of her kitchen cabinets. It's quite a big job! Altogether there are 41 cabinets and drawers! Oh well, I like stuff like that. Until I get tired, that is. It will be so much fun to have a house someday. I can hardly wait to buy a house that needs a lot of work and then fix it all up! I have so many ideas in my head but no house to put them in. However, I don't think that will happen for a long time, since Kent and I can't seem to commit to anything longer than a 6 month lease, much less commit to a mortgage.

Oh yes, so I did forget to actually say what I'll be doing at my new job. I will be helping with the leases and attending to the Dr's needs, such as calling repair people or cleaning people, or whatever. I'll also be doing some stuff with entering money and rent payments into the computer. They said that I will have projects, as well. I will be working from 8 - 5 Monday through Friday, so that's good. There are some apartments we're interested in that are about 2 blocks from the building where I will work. They're also right by the library, you know how much I love the library.

I'm just so tired and I feel like if I sneeze a cloud of dust will come out of my nose. I need a nap.

I'm Officially Hired!

That's right, I got a job! They called around 8 last night and made me an offer, which I accepted. I'm SO happy and thankful! Now here's something very rare to appear on my blog...something serious. This is what happened with my job search.

Well, it all goes back to July. Kent got accepted to the school and we decided that IF we got jobs ahead of time then we would move. It turns out we both felt like God wanted us to go ahead and just move. Without jobs. With only the money we had saved up. So we moved in with my grandparents. Kent got a job 2 days after being here! They offered him flexible hours to work around his classes and the right amount of money. It seemed just right. I had more difficulty finding a job. Our goal was that my job needed to meet ALL of our needs outside of Kent's tuition (his job would pay for that). So we figured out how much we needed and it came to X amount of dollars. We and other family and friends began praying that I would be able to find a job paying X dollars. Well about a month and a half into the search we began to get discouraged. No one would call me back after I told them my salary requirement. Other people told me "you won't be able to get a job making that much, you don't have enough experience", meanwhile our savings was dwindling away. We then re-evaluated our budget and made some cuts. We also decided that we could live on campus, although that wasn't really what we wanted to do and Kent would take on a few more hours. So, I began searching for Z amount of dollars. I got a few calls back after that amount was decided, but none of them worked out. About 2 months into the job search I got really down about the whole thing. I started thinking maybe we made a mistake moving here. Maybe we read things wrong and God really didn't want us here at all. Not to mention, I looked at our budget and realized our money would run out on November 15th. Then I signed up with a staffing agency. They sent me on a lot of interviews! One in particular was an interview on friday October 22nd. They really liked me and I got a call from my recruiter saying that they would probably make me an offer. It was an "okay" job. It paid Z dollars. I would be doing ALOT of filing. I would also have to drive downtown everyday and pay $1000 per year just to park! Well, as soon as I hung up the phone it rang again in my hand. When I answered, a lady said "Hi Jessica. I'm _________ a recruiter from ______ and I have your resume' in front of me." She went on to tell me about this job that sounded EXACTLY like what I'd been looking for! It paid X dollars, health insurance, vacation and the possibility of promotion. Plus it would pay the tuition for any industry related degree or license I wanted to get. It's about 1 mile from where we live and it's in the property management industry! The whole time she was talking I just kept thinking things like "How much of a chance do I really have?" "Should I turn down other offers for this job?" God answered all my questions through her as she talked. I didn't voice any of them. She also told me that she usually has a feel for these things and she thought I'd be a great match for the company. She was only selecting 3 other people for interviews. I didn't even apply for this job. Somehow she got a hold of my resume'. Possibly from somewhere I posted it on the internet. We left it as she would contact me on Monday to set up an interview for Tuesday. So, all weekend we prayed and tried to figured out what to do. On Monday the downtown job made me an offer. It was a good offer, but I couldn't help think of this other opportunity that God put in front of me. So we prayed and read and asked for God's guidance as to what to do. I had until Tuesday morning to make a decision. I just kept thinking how could I justify turning down a job OFFER that I'd been praying for for so long for a job I hadn't even interviewed for yet! Kent and I agreed though that we both felt like this other opportunity was put in front of me for a reason and it's all in God's control anyway, so if he wants me to turn down this offer then he will provide something else, whether it's the property management job or not. So, we decided that if the recruiter actually called me back to set up an interview, then I would turn down the downtown job (yikes). Well, of course I waited and waited for her to call back. When it was after five I figured she wouldn't. So, I prayed again for her to just call me and let me know either way. It didn't have to be the way I wanted. She called at 5:30 and told me I had an interview! I was so excited and nervous. The next morning the downtown job called and I turned it down. They were not happy. They tried to press me for information about the new company and how much they pay and all that, but I wouldn't give it out. I went to my interview and, by the way, I've lost all of my ability to read people. I used to be pretty good at that, but not anymore. I don't know what happened. Anyway, I wasn't sure if he liked me or not. The interview lasted about an hour and he said he would more than likely call me the next day to meet with the VP who would be in town on business. He called me the next day and asked if I could meet him and the VP for lunch (see the post that is below this one). So, I met them and it went okay. I say the strangest things sometimes and I think how on earth could these people like me. But, my recruiter called me back and said they loved me, but no offers yet. All the while we still were continually praying that I would be shown if this is the right job or also if there are any red flags I should know about. Then the guy that interviewed me called me back and said we're very interested but we need to work some things out. Okay. Recruiter calls back, they're very interested, but they need to work some things out. Hang on until next week. Alright, I will. Monday, recruiter calls again, they really like you when is the latest you could start. I tell her November 15th (that's when our money runs out, but I didn't tell her that :). Tuesday, my interviewer calls me back and wants me to meet him and one of the partners for cocktails ( I was so nervous about that). It went really well. They were very nice and relaxed people. They kept asking me if the recruiter had called me yet. I told them just that she'd called and asked when I would need to start. So, finally one of them said, well, you know, we want you. And hopefully we can get this worked out and the recruiter will call you. YES! But of course It's not official yet, so I still think there's the possibility they might not hire me. Well, on the way home I get a call from the recruiter. She says they'd like to make you an offer of X dollars per year. Do you accept? I accepted. "You're officially hired at X dollars". Oh I'm so happy! Thank you God! I just can't believe that what I had given up on over a month ago God didn't give up on at all. He knew all along what was waiting for me. Even when I acted like a baby and cried when I got turned down for jobs and said things like We should've never moved here, He knew that I was getting turned down because He had the job for me waiting that paid the amount that we had originally prayed for. Even the recruiter said, "You know, it's still a mystery to you and me how we actually got your resume. I can only assume it was from the internet, but I don't know." Someone had just given her a stack of printed out resume outlines to look through. All the work and money I spent on my own sending out resume's and paying for postage, in the end wasn't even needed. I didn't have to search for the job, God sent it to me. I just feel so "taken care of", if that makes sense. Thank you so much to anyone who prayed for us during my search. :)

Symptoms: Can't sleep, loss of appetite, angry stomach

**I've had this saved as a draft since Wednesday October 27th. I didn't want to write anything that might jeopardize my chance for the job, so now that the decision has been made I feel free to post. However, no specific names will be mentioned**

Diagnosis: My first "Business Lunch" (well really it was more like an interview while eating)

That was stressful. Going to a regular interview makes me nervous enough. I alredy have quite a few nervousness problems with the neck spasms, heart palpitations, and chest tightness. So, now I had to interview and eat! That added a whole new dimension to my anxiety. I began to think, what should I eat? Are they paying for me? What if I get a bean sprout stuck in my teeth? If I choke and require the Heimlich maneuver am I still a candidate for the job? I survived though, but not without quite a bit of sweating and an insanely long spit string connecting my mouth to my straw (I really hope they didn't see that).

Pigeons Plot in Secrecy

There's a Simon and Garfunkel CD called "Bookends" and on this CD there is a song called "At the Zoo." I would love to do a painting of what I see in my head when this song plays! It's very funny to me, but so far no one else really thinks so. In the song it talks about the animals at the zoo and what they're known for. Here are some of my favorite lines! You should download this.

Orangutans are skeptical of changes in their cages,
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum...

Zebras are reactionaries,

Antelopes are missionaries...

Pigeons plot in secrecy...

What do you think those pigeons are plotting? I think they're plotting graphs.
